Production vs Post Production

Share

A lot of people have asked me about the difference between production and post production.

As wikipedia explains, post-production occurs in the making of motion pictures, television programs, photography and almost all other forms of digital art. It is term for all stages of production occurring after the actual end of shooting and/or recording the completed work.Post-production is, in fact, many different processes grouped under one name.

These typically include:

  • Editing (Photoshoping) the picture
  • Writing, (re)recording, and editing the soundtrack
  • Adding visual special effects – mainly computer-generated imagery and digital copy from which release prints will be made
  • Transfer of Color motion picture film to Video or DPX with a telecine and Color grading (correction) in a color suite

Typically, the post-production phase of creating a film takes longer than the actual shooting of the film, and can take several months to complete.

I perceive photography as art i.e. illustration of reality in a creative way, that is why I strongly believe in power of post production. Take a look at the examples below:

As the examples above show the production itself is not always enough to get a perfect result. Professional designers at Artvesta studio are always at our customers’ side and deliver the best possible visual images.

A final stage of post production is color correction and photo filters application. How do you take your….photographs?
